San Angelo University was built after an unsuccessful bid in 1923, where the city was nominated to be a prospective home for Texas Technological College. After losing the bid, the community in San Angelo decided that their passion for education couldn’t be stopped; the citizens of San Angelo paid for the creation of San Angelo Junior College themselves, and opened its doors for the first time in 1928. Since its inception, San Angelo College has been a pillar of development and prosperity for western Texas. Today, it remains a steadfast source of growth for the community of San Angelo, reflected by its 25-time awarded title as one of the nation’s “Best Colleges” by The Princeton Review.
