South Texas College has a student population of over 26,000 and more than 2,200 faculty members who serve the institution’s five in-person campuses, two higher education centers, and one virtual campus. With 37 fully online programs at its virtual campus, the community college needed an excellent digital presence to support its students. That’s where YuJa came in.

Faculty at Angelo State University have found the transition to YuJa Lumina easy and seamless. With customised training and an intuitive interface, the platform was simple for content creators to adopt. “I found YuJa really easy to use,” shared Dr. Mohr. “There are a lot of help videos and resources for when you get started to make it easy to use, and it also provides you with a lot of resources for how to categorize and keep it organized.”

Enhancing Learning: YuJa Lumina Makes Videos More Accessible and Engaging

Amanda Ledesma, an Instructional Support Manager for the college’s Educational Technologies Department, called YuJa’s technology an “all-in-one solution” due to its many functions. She noted that YuJa Lumina enables instructors to record videos, add captions in English and other languages, and incorporate interactive quizzes. Instructors discovered several features of YuJa Lumina and YuJa Panorama that weren’t possible with previous tools, which were not as all-encompassing.

“YuJa has a lot of tools bundled into one,” Ledesma said. “These systems don’t typically have everything we need together in one package. YuJa was that for us.”

Ease Of Integration: A Simple Solution That “Empowers” Students

The platform’s integration with the school’s LMS, featuring single sign-on and LTI integration, simplifies the user experience, allowing faculty and students to access tools seamlessly within their existing accounts. Ledesma said most students are already familiar with getting into their LMS accounts, so YuJa Panorama’s integration was an easy transition.

“It greatly simplifies our onboarding for students because we can keep them together in the same area,” Ledesma said. “It empowers them, and it makes life for us easier when it comes to instructing them how to get to those tools and how to log in.”

Accessibility and Translation Capabilities: Crucial Tools For a Diverse Student Body

Torres said YuJa Lumina’s closed-captioning feature, which can provide automatic translations in different languages, has been one of the most impactful tools for instructors at South Texas College. This supported the institution’s diverse student population in ways that previous solutions could not. Latino/Hispanic students make up 96 percent of total student enrollment at South Texas, according to the college’s website.

“Being able to caption in different languages was a really big one for us,” Ledesma said. “Some of our previous solutions had captioning, but did not have something that allowed our faculty, staff, or students to translate that captioning into other languages.”

Ledesma lauded YuJa’s customer support for its prompt and useful assistance whenever help is needed for South Texas instructors. “We’ve had a great relationship with YuJa,” she said. “The responses we’ve gotten from YuJa have always been very quick, which has been wonderful for us.”

YuJa helped the institution transfer course content, such as videos and quizzes, from the previous system during their migration. Whatever instructors needed during the transition, YuJa support was there to help.
