Introduction

YuJa Powers Digital Transformation at Louisiana’s Third-Largest Public University

When Southeastern Louisiana University transitioned to the Canvas Learning Management System in 2023, institutional leaders began evaluating tools to provide a comprehensive solution for video content management and accessibility. After thorough research and evaluation, they chose YuJa’s Enterprise Video Platform and YuJa Panorama LMS Accessibility Platform for their robust features, seamless integration capabilities, and track record with major institutions. “Originally, we started with just looking at Panorama for accessibility in Canvas,” explained Dr. Jared Wall, Assistant Director of Educational Technology. “We found that Panorama gave us everything that we had previously with a different tool, but with a much further expanded capability and customization on our end. We also really liked that there were a lot of other major institutions already using the products, so we knew [YuJa’s solutions were] out there and being used.”

YuJa’s Platforms Integrate With Existing Systems

Integration of the YuJa Video Platform and YuJa Panorama were seamless, Dr. Wall said. “Everything paired as expected. The integration also allows single sign-on for faculty and students to access the tools without having to create another account or log in.” YuJa Panorama provides accessibility icons for students in the LMS. “So they can just click a button to generate alternate versions, and it lets faculty see those score reports right within the LMS.” Dr. Wall shared that previous tools were difficult to use and required instructors or designers to manually edit every file that needed changes, whether that meant taking a PDF back into Adobe and fixing it or bringing it back to Microsoft Word or PowerPoint and then re-uploading it into the video content management system. “YuJa allows us to just ‘click-to-fix’ and replaces the file automatically,” Dr. Wall remarked. “It’s a lot more manageable on the instructor’s side as they’re improving their courses.”

Improving Access for Students

YuJa Panorama Helps Improve Access for Students

Fully online and hybrid classes at Southeastern Louisiana are required to meet the Quality Matters standards, part of which includes the accessibility score. YuJa Panorama helps instructors see where they need to make improvements and overall scores when they submit their courses for review. “It also lets instructional designers screening those courses know that it has met the required accessibility score before we start looking at it,” Dr. Wall said. “YuJa Panorama gets used a lot to ensure adherence with federal law and university policy.” With YuJa Panorama, users have processed over 602,000 files, Dr. Wall reported. Students generated over 10,500 alternative format files in 2024, including 7,000 PDFs, 2,600 “other” formats, 60 MP3 audio files, and 15 Braille format documents, ensuring content accessibility for all learning needs. Southeastern Louisiana University maintains a 91 percent overall accessibility score, with a goal to continue improving accessibility.

Enhanced Video Creation and Management

The YuJa Video Platform is a “Game Changer”

Instructors rely on the YuJa Video Platform, which has been well-received by instructors and students alike, Dr. Wall said. The YuJa Video Platform’s web recorder enables both faculty and students to create and share videos directly within Canvas, leading to increased video content usage across courses. “Auto-generated captions from the Enterprise Video Platform [have] really been a game-changer for our faculty. We don’t have to teach a specific tool or skill, which increases effectiveness of their time and benefits students as well,” Dr. Wall shared, adding that instructors no longer have to add or edit captions in an external platform. “We have seen an increase in the use of video with Canvas from the numbers we previously saw. The online recording option makes it easy. We don’t have to install a separate tool to go make those recordings.”

Using YuJa Beyond Instruction

YuJa Video Platform is Now Used for Mandatory Training

The YuJa Video Platform and video quizzes have helped simplify mandatory training delivery for over 2,000 university employees and student workers. The platform’s editing capabilities allow for quick updates to training content without complete recreation, significantly reducing production time and ensuring consistent quality. “We leverage the YuJa video quiz for our Title IX training. When you have to make your own training, it takes a lot of production time and hours to create or update a video,” Dr. Wall shared. “I was able to go in and just replace those PowerPoint slides in the video with the YuJa editor so that we could update it for the new year without having to recreate the whole video, and then refresh the quiz to ensure people are absorbing content in the training and showing they understood it.”

Transforming Teaching and Learning

YuJa Enables Instructors to Focus on Teaching

YuJa has helped improve how Southeastern approaches digital learning and accessibility. By streamlining previously complex processes that took place across several platforms and providing intuitive tools, the YuJa Video Platform and the YuJa Panorama LMS Accessibility Platform enable instructors to focus on what matters most, teaching and student engagement. “YuJa has provided our university with tools that enhance the student learning experience while making the work of creating and sharing accessible documents and videos more efficient. This has provided our instructors with more time for what is important in the learning process, interacting with their students,” Dr. Wall concluded. “Having used two other platforms for the same functions, YuJa has given us the same tools at a reduced cost but with a much more user-centered and friendly design.”
